All artists tend to be moody, and as such Curtis draws much of his inspiration from changes in moods; "I like to create music in reaction to my mood or as a catalyst to change it." Our changing moods and how we react to events in our lives is something that most people can relate to. You can feel the anxious adrenaline rush in "Rollercoaster" which was written right after 9/11. The next time you are day dreaming of breaking free from the monotonous shackles of working take a long car ride with "Open Road" blasting. The thoughts we have and the emotions we feel are not easily put into words and explained. Curtis creates music as a release for these emotions with such tunes as "10 years" which is a reflection of sadness marking the 10 year anniversary of his mother's death. The variety and diversity in Curtis's music is a reflection of the many ways we can feel or would like to feel, maybe like the feeling of a relaxing summer day on the beach captured in "Indian Summer".
"There are two types of music: music I like and music I don't like". This genre bending approach has exposed Curtis to an ocean of music. Distilled over time, this wide variety of influences has emerged and helped shape his unique musical voice. The vehicle of his musical expression is the guitar. Starting on classical guitar at the age of 11, Curtis has spent his life dedicate to learning, creating and pushing the boundaries of the instrument and his music. To the new listener his guitar driven music sounds like Rock but quickly the currents of Jazz, Blues, Surf, and Country can be heard along with the common thread that ties them all together: great melodies, virtuosity, and soulful playing.
